Solar flashlight -the next generation of Green living

All year long, the greenest gift you can give is our SunLight Solar flashlight. After having endured 13 days without electricity due of hurricane Ike in September of 2008, with one of these lamps per person, we at Casa Concept vetted these lamps, and recommend them to everyone. Purchase them in our online catalog. SL-1 The SL-1 SunLight Solar personal lamp, which comes in vivid Orange and Pink, is the gift of light that keeps on giving. Equipped with a hook and a reflective band that allow for hanging to use as task lighting, and ease of finding in the dark, these features proved invaluable during the massive blackouts that ensued after huricane Ike. Not having to scramble for batteries and light bulbs and not adding expense to the already costly aftermath using solar operated lamps was priceless.
C + C well represented at Greenbuild Conference in Boston

Greenbuild Conference, to be held in Boston this year, is expected to surpass the size of the Chicago conference, given that this year, the silver lining in the midst of the global economic and financial woes is the burgeoning GREEN economy, which could give new life to our economy, our workers and our cities. At Casa Concept we are committed to bringing state of the art information to our clients, and to seamlessly incorporate the industry findings into design and construction of all our projects. We are in the quest of finding the most economical way to build GREEN, while holding high standards in design.

For Green home design, the emphasis continues to be in the reduction of energy consumption and reliance on the grid. Renewable energy sources should already be part of all of our designs, but the price continues to be prohibitive for most projects. Talking to vendors at the Greenbuild Exhibition is an excellent way to crack these hurdles.

We will be posting blogs and articles from the Convention, so stay tuned.

LED lighting the rage in lighting design

LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting is all the rage in lighting design and interiors, showing up in reading lamps at The Sharper Image, and in high end design. Having used it as specialty lighting in our Casa Concept, we have the inside on why to use LED and where, given it's steep price. This old technology promises to add a needed dimension to available green lighting.

The true measure of your carbon footprint

Carbon footprint? The newest truest measure of GREEN is being measured by Wal-Mart for a few lines of products, according to a recent article in Business Week The CDP, Carbon Disclosure Project, is pushing for ways to measure the energy and emissions load that a product's manufacturing and transportation places on the environment. President Bill Clinton was instrumental in coercing Wal-Mart to be a leader in this initiative. Read about it in Green Studio BLOG.

Green is in for the Holidays

It is with certainty that Houston Chronicle reporter Mary Vuong tackled the difficult assingment of reconciling the excess spending and consumption that traditionally dominates the Christmas and Holiday Season with the Green Movement: the certainty that it can't be done well. Mrs. Wise was certainly impressed and honored to be interviewed for this article; particularly impressive was that Ms. Voung had chosen to interview someone who is deeply entrenched in educating and building a sustainable world, versus picking a Paris Hilton-type for celebrity appeal.

To even try to mesh the two opposing philosophies is a stretch, but after a thorough recapitulation of the different Green waves in the movement, it was clear that it's going to take time for the general public to get behind lifestyle changes, versus green shopping. Mrs. Wise ascertained that for educational and conversation purposes, Green Christmas gifts such as a solar flashlight, or a stainless steel water bottle could be valued and understood immediately for it's sustainability qualities, and make great gifts.
