It is with certainty that Houston Chronicle reporter Mary Vuong tackled the difficult assingment of reconciling the excess spending and consumption that traditionally dominates the Christmas and Holiday Season with the Green Movement: the certainty that it can't be done well. Mrs. Wise was certainly impressed and honored to be interviewed for this article; particularly impressive was that Ms. Voung had chosen to interview someone who is deeply entrenched in educating and building a sustainable world, versus picking a Paris Hilton-type for celebrity appeal.
To even try to mesh the two opposing philosophies is a stretch, but after a thorough recapitulation of the different Green waves in the movement, it was clear that it's going to take time for the general public to get behind lifestyle changes, versus green shopping. Mrs. Wise ascertained that for educational and conversation purposes, Green Christmas gifts such as a solar flashlight, or a stainless steel water bottle could be valued and understood immediately for it's sustainability qualities, and make great gifts.
